A lift in efficiency for cat owners

Cat in box, Walmart

Cat litter is heavy. Heavy as in lifting-a-small-child-into-the-cart heavy. Just ask anyone who’s hoisted those boxes or plastic tubs into a shopping cart, and that person will tell you that lifting litter is as good as lifting weights.

The clay litter is effective but its weight has distinct disadvantages. The hefty tubs can be unwieldy for customers, and the freight costs are notably higher than many other products.

Last year, Walmart worked with Oil-Dri to bring a new, lighter cat litter to our customers. The product is about 25 percent lighter than other clay litter but performs just as well. That means a 21-pound container of Cat’s Pride Fresh & Light™ offers the same number of uses as a 28-pound container of regular clay litter.

The new product is more than cat- and customer-friendly. Because the product is lighter, we can now fill trucks rather than weighting them. And finally, we’re able to use fewer trucks, which translates to less fuel consumed – a clear plus for the environment.

This change is minimizing our impact on environment and, of course, making life better for customers.

I haven’t seen this new litter, but if I do I will try it.  Hope its not more expensive. With 5 cats, things can get a bit pricey.

This is the best litter we’ve found! It’s reasonably priced ($11.98 at Walmart) and my husband, who has COPD, feels that we’ve greatly reduced the litter dust we found with all other litter brands. Marlene, I do cat rescue; we currently have 8 feline residents, and it certainly does get pricey for all of their needs!

I’d love to try this new litter, lighter and reducing our carbon footprint? That’s great! I came home from the store just last night with a 40lb box that i struggled to lift up and into the cart. We have 5 cats and currently use Arm & Hammer; I’ve found it works best to control odor and clumps nicely. How does this new, lighter, kind work? We never change brands because of concerns over how effective others are.

Does it clump?  Removing clumps lets me use it longer without changing the whole bin.

It does clump. Wish it was cheaper for the cats I have.

I cannot believe I landed here, because I will NEVER buy kitty litter or any other product from walmart. Sounds like a good idea until you find it was manufactured in China like the rest of walmart schlock.
