Seeking solutions on energy

Balzac Fresh Food Distribution Center – Wind Turbine

No one has all the answers for the best way to protect the environment. And although Walmart has several plans – and goals – in place to reduce our impact, we’re always exploring new methods of contributing toward them. But sometimes just having a goal at all can make a big difference, according to a blog post published yesterday on CNBC.comContinue reading

San Diego Walmart Solar

But when you’ve set a goal of one day being powered 100 percent by renewable energy, there’s always room for improvement. So we continue to work toward our next step: 1,000 locations using solar power by 2020.

Check out the full story here.

Protecting the environment across the pond

ASDA truck

A Bloomberg story about U.K. retailers using food waste as an alternative fuel got us thinking. Our retailer, Asda, is mentioned specifically for sending expired meat and bread to bioenergy sites that convert the waste into electricity. But diverting food waste is just one of the company’s activities that help reduce costs as well as environmental impact.  Continue reading
