All across the nation in the early twilight they gather.  America’s lost, looking for shelter in hand-me-down buildings to wait out the night.  Nearly one million of our neighbors, many families with children, are now on the streets seeking shelter and a new start.

Their needs are met by non-profit organizations, some using government funds and many using only private resources.

The numbers behind zero waste

Today is America Recycles Day and there are simple steps all of us can take to reduce waste – and cut costs.  At Walmart, one of our three big sustainability goals is to create zero waste and last year we worked towards this goal by recycling, donating food, and reusing organic material.  As a result, we reduced the amount we send to landfill in the U.S. by 80 percent!  For more on how we did it check out our infographic.
